Making Christmas Mini Sessions a Yearly Tradition in Melbourne’s West
Every year, Christmas seems to sneak up faster than expected.
One minute it’s July, and the next you’re trying to organise gifts, outfits, kinder concerts, family catch-ups, Santa photos, end-of-year things and approximately 47 other tiny festive jobs.
And somewhere in the middle of all that, there’s this beautiful little window where your family is exactly as they are this Christmas.
The missing teeth.
The toddler chaos.
The new baby’s first Christmas.
The kids getting taller each time they come back.
That’s what I love about Christmas mini sessions.
They’re not meant to replace a full family session.
They’re something completely different.
A short, festive, Christmas-themed session that captures your family in this season, year after year.
And when you make them a tradition?
They become a little time capsule of your family, one Christmas at a time.

Why Christmas mini sessions are so special
Christmas mini sessions have their own kind of magic.
They’re festive, playful and a little bit nostalgic – a chance to capture your family in a way that feels completely tied to the season.
The Christmas setup changes each year, but the heart behind it stays the same: creating beautiful, simple festive photos that feel like your family.
They’re especially lovely for young kids because the session is short, relaxed and fun. We keep things moving, capture the cuddles and the giggles, and let the Christmas setting do some of the heavy lifting.
You don’t need perfectly behaved children.
You don’t need everyone to sit still for ages.
You don’t need to arrive with kids who are ready to perform on command.
We keep it simple, have a little fun, and create Christmas photos that feel warm, sweet and full of this stage of life.

Perfect for Christmas cards, gifts and keepsakes
One of the best things about booking a Christmas mini session in Melbourne’s west is that you walk away with festive photos you can actually use.
They’re perfect for Christmas cards, gifts for grandparents, photo frames, keepsakes, or simply having a beautiful record of your family at this stage.
Why families come back every year
The real magic of Christmas mini sessions is not just the photos from one year.
It’s watching them build over time.
The first Christmas with a new baby.
The year your toddler refused to sit still.
The year your little one finally smiled straight away.
The year the siblings cuddled without being asked.
The year you realised they suddenly looked so much older.
When you make Christmas minis a yearly tradition, you get to see all those tiny changes that are so easy to miss while you’re busy living them.
And honestly?
That’s the part that gets me.
Because kids change so quickly. Sometimes you don’t notice it day to day, but when you look back at your Christmas photos from each year, you see it.
How much they’ve grown.
How their little faces have changed.
How your family has changed.
How quickly each stage came and went.
That’s what makes these sessions more than just Christmas photos.
They become part of your family’s Christmas story.
And if you’re anything like most parents, your camera roll is probably full of your kids.
But not always with you in the photo too.
Christmas minis are a lovely way to make sure everyone is included.
Not just the kids.
Not just one parent behind the phone.
All of you, together.
At least once a year.
What to Expect in a Christmas Mini Session
My Christmas mini sessions are held in my Altona Meadows studio in Melbourne’s west.
Each session is short and sweet, usually around 20 minutes, which makes them a lovely option for Christmas photos with young children.
The setup changes each year and is designed to feel festive without being too over the top. I love keeping things clean, timeless and fun, so your photos still feel beautiful years from now.
You can expect:
- A short, relaxed Christmas-themed session.
- A festive studio setup.
- Gentle direction so you don’t feel awkward.
- A few playful moments for the kids.
- Beautiful edited images delivered in time for Christmas cards and gifting.
The whole point is to make it feel easy, fun and festive.
A few tips before your Christmas mini session
You don’t need to overthink it, but a little preparation can help everything run smoothly.
Try to choose outfits that work well together without being too matchy-matchy. Soft neutrals, warm tones, knits, linen, denim and subtle festive colours usually photograph beautifully.
Avoid anything too bright, neon or heavily patterned, because it can take attention away from your faces.
For little kids, comfort matters. If they feel uncomfortable in what they’re wearing, we’ll usually know about it pretty quickly.
Bring a small snack if your child might need one, but try to avoid anything too messy right before photos.
And most importantly, don’t talk too much about needing them to smile or behave perfectly.
You can simply tell them:
“We’re going to have some Christmas photos and a little play.”
That’s enough.
