Newborn photography Melbourne

the NEWBORN EXPERIENCE

Because the days are long, but this stage is so short.

Natural, baby-led newborn photography for families across Melbourne, photographed in my light-filled studio in Altona Meadows.

If you’re looking for a Melbourne newborn photographer who will give your baby plenty of time to feed, settle and simply be themselves, you’re in the right place.

My newborn sessions are calm, unhurried and safely guided, with a focus on the tiny details, natural connection and photographs that still feel like your family.

Custom newborn photography in Melbourne; naturally guided, baby-led sessions for growing families.

calm, baby-led sessions for new and expecting parents.

The tiny fingers.

The flaky little toes.

The way they curl perfectly into your chest.

Right now, it probably feels impossible to imagine your baby any other way.

But those first few weeks pass in a blur of feeds, cuddles, visitors, sleepless nights and trying to work out what your new normal looks like.

Before you know it, they’re stretching out, filling their clothes and looking less like a newborn every day.

That’s why newborn sessions are best booked while you’re still pregnant.

I photograph only a limited number of newborns each month, so reserving your session during pregnancy ensures I’ll have space available when your baby arrives.

Don’t worry if baby comes early or late – your session date can be adjusted once they’re here.

Real life welcome here

Worried your baby won’t sleep?

That your toddler won’t cooperate?

That you’ll still be figuring everything out?

Good. That means you’re a normal parent.

Newborn sessions aren’t about perfection.

They’re about documenting this chapter exactly as it is.

The tiny details. The overwhelming love. The way your family fits together in these early days.

My sessions are calm, baby-led and completely relaxed.

There is plenty of time for feeding, settling, cuddles and breaks whenever they’re needed.

No rushing.

No pressure.

No expectations for anyone to perform.

Just beautiful photographs of the people you love most.

As a newborn photographer in Melbourne for over 15 years, my focus is always on creating a calm, natural experience that allows you to slow down and enjoy these early days.

What makes my newborn sessions different

SM 0927 BW

There’s no shortage of newborn photographers in Melbourne.

But not every session feels the same.

My approach is intentionally slow, calm and completely baby-led – with time built in for feeding, cuddles, settling and breaks whenever they’re needed.

Rather than focusing on rigid posing or getting baby to “perform,” I focus on connection and comfort first.

The way your baby settles into you.

The quiet in-between moments.

The feeling of your family just being together in those first early days.

You don’t need your baby to be sleepy.

You don’t need your family to behave a certain way.

You just need to show up as you are.

And I’ll take care of the rest.

You know this experience is for you if:

– You’re currently pregnant or just welcomed a new addition and want to make sure you don’t miss the newborn stage.

– You love natural, timeless photographs that won’t feel dated in ten years.

– You want family photographs as well as baby-only images.

– You feel a little nervous about being photographed.

– You want someone to guide you through the whole process.

– You value quality over quantity.

– You want photographs that deserve a place on your walls, not just your phone.

here’s What you can expect

From the moment you book, I’ll guide you through every step.

You’ll receive everything you need to prepare for your session, including information about what to wear, how to prepare siblings, and what to expect on the day.

Your session takes place in my calm, natural-light studio in Altona Meadows.

The studio is warm, comfortable and fully equipped with all the little things new parents often need.

Nappies.

Wipes.

Changing facilities.

A comfortable place to sit and relax.

And yes – plenty of patience.

SESSION DAY

This isn’t a heavily posed newborn photography session.

While I’ll gently guide and style where needed, my focus is always connection first.

The way your baby nestles into your shoulder.

Tiny fingers wrapped around yours.

The way older siblings look at their new baby brother or sister.

The little moments you don’t realise are happening until they’re gone.

We’ll capture a beautiful combination of baby portraits, parent photographs, sibling images and family photographs that tell the story of this chapter in your life.

FAQ

When should I book my newborn session?

The best time to book is during your second trimester or early in your third trimester.

Your actual session date isn’t locked in until baby arrives.

Booking early simply reserves space around your due date.

How old should my baby be?

Newborn sessions are ideally photographed during the first 1–4 weeks, with 6–14 days being perfect for the tiniest, sleepiest newborn photographs. Read my complete guide to the best age for newborn photos to see what changes at each stage.

What happens during a newborn photoshoot?

If you’ve never had professional photos taken before, it’s completely normal to wonder what actually happens.

My newborn photoshoots are calm, baby-led and completely unhurried.

When you arrive, we’ll spend a few minutes settling in while you feed or cuddle your baby if needed. From there, I’ll gently guide you through each part of the session, starting with family photographs before moving into individual baby portraits.

We pause whenever your baby needs feeding, changing or cuddles. There’s never any pressure to rush.

How long does a newborn session take?

Newborn sessions are completely unhurried and allow plenty of time for feeding, settling, changes and breaks as needed.

Most sessions take around 2 hours so everything can flow naturally without pressure or rushing.

What if my baby won’t sleep?

That’s completely okay.

My sessions are baby-led and allow plenty of time for feeding, settling and cuddles.

Beautiful photographs don’t depend on a perfectly sleepy baby.

Can parents and siblings be included?

Absolutely.

In fact, I encourage it.

These photographs are about your family, not just your baby.

What should we wear?

You’ll receive styling guidance before your session and access to my studio wardrobe, making outfit planning simple and stress-free.

Do you offer newborn photography in Melbourne homes or only in studio?

Newborn sessions are held in my calm natural-light studio in Altona Meadows, just 20kms west of Melbourne.

A beautiful space designed to provide a relaxed environment for newborn safety, comfort, and beautiful light. The studio has everything you and your baby need, including nappies, wipes, a change table, feeding space, refreshments and plenty of time for cuddles, feeds and settling.

I do not currently travel to clients’ homes for newborn photography.
