SESSION DAY
First birthday sessions are designed to capture a little bit of everything.
We’ll start with simple portraits of your baby.
The cheeky smiles.
The growing personality.

Family photographs can also be included, allowing you to celebrate this milestone together.
Then comes the cake.
Some babies love it.
Some babies aren’t quite sure what to think.
Both make for wonderful photographs.
And once the cake smash is finished, we’ll finish things off with a splash bath in my little clawfoot tub.
For some babies, this ends up being their favourite part.
The splashing. The bubbles.
It’s the perfect way to finish the session and capture even more of their personality.

We’ll sit down together and view the very best images from your session.

The best part of a cake smash – the cake itself. You’re welcome to bring your own, but I can also supply one for you to keep things super simple. I always recommend something soft, simple, and easy for little fingers to squish into. Think gentle buttercream swirls, light colours, and a small cake that won’t overwhelm your baby.
If choosing a cake feels like one more thing on your list, I’ve got you – simply send through your style preferences when booking (I’ve attached photos below for inspiration) and I’ll organise the perfect cake for your little one.

When should I book my cake smash session?
Most families book several months ahead to secure a spot in my calendar.
The session itself can take place whenever feels right for your family.
Some parents prefer to visit before their baby’s birthday so they can use the images for invitations, party decorations or birthday displays.
Others love booking as close as possible to their baby’s actual birthday – and I’ve even photographed sessions on the big day itself.
There isn’t a right or wrong answer. We’ll simply choose a date that works best for you.
Do I need to provide the cake?
You’re welcome to bring your own cake, or I can organise one for you to keep things simple.
I generally recommend a small, soft cake with simple buttercream icing that’s easy for little fingers to explore.
If you’d prefer me to organise it, simply let me know your colour preferences when booking and I’ll take care of the rest.
Can parents and siblings be included?
Absolutely.
In fact, I encourage it.
These photographs are about your family, not just your baby.
What if my baby doesn’t like the cake?
That’s completely okay.
Some babies dive straight in while others take their time and some hardly touch the cake at all.
Beautiful photographs don’t depend on how much cake gets eaten.
What should my baby wear?
You’ll receive guidance before your session to help choose outfits that photograph beautifully and suit your chosen setup.
How long does a cake smash session take?
Most first birthday sessions last around 60-90 minutes, allowing plenty of time for portraits, family photographs, the cake smash and splash bath without rushing your little one.
Do you provide the setup and decorations?
No.
My philosophy has always been that the focus should be on your baby, not the props.
You’re welcome to bring decorations if you’d like them included, but I intentionally keep my setups simple and timeless so the attention stays on your little one rather than a heavily themed backdrop.
I can provide the cake stand and cake topper (as well as the cake itself) and I’m happy to offer guidance if you’re unsure what works well, but the overall styling and decorations are organised by you if needed – however most of my clients keep the set up very simple.
